Ode to a Squirrel

This is a poem I wrote several years ago for my high school Creative Writing class.

Ode to a Squirrel

Ah, to be a squirrel.
To frolic in the open breeze,
the grass parting softly as you scamper
high up in the old oak trees
throwing nuts at passersby.

Ah, to be a squirrel,
sleeping winters away,
stealing bird seed in the summer.

Oh, you intelligent ones,
how do you do it?
Daredevils of the highway.

Ah, to be roadkill.

Blogging the depths of the abyss,
